Honey has been found to help boost the immune system in a number of ways. Honey has natural antioxidant and antibacterial properties that benefit the digestive system, which plays a major role in the health of the immune system. Newer research has also found that honey has natural probiotic properties which further boost its immune boosting abilities. These probiotic compounds are very heat sensitive, making it all the more important to choose unheated (unpasteurised) honey. For a healthy start to the day, and a great kick start for the immune system, have a teaspoon of honey and the freshly squeezed juice of half a lemon in a big glass of warm water.
