Jerky (dried meat) is a great alternative to carbohydrate laden snack bars, crisps and cookies. Jerky is dried, salted meat. It’s a great snack food, high in protein and low in carbs and will keep you satisfied for hours. Many manufacturers now use highly processed minced, leftover meats, like sinews, fat, and offal, to make jerky, rather than traditional whole meat. These products will generally contain preservatives and additives like MSG and its many derivatives, and often contain a lot of sugar. Rather look for jerky made of solid meat from venison or grass fed beef that isn’t seasoned with chemicals and additives.
