12 Symptoms of COPD

3. Excessive Phlegm in the Morning.

This is a tricky symptom because it can be present in many conditions. Most often, you should experience some kind of changes in your mucus in the morning when you come down with a seasonal cold, which indicates that your respiratory tract is infected. Similarly, when you have COPD, it is likely that you could have thick and darkened mucus coming from your throat in the morning, even though you do not have a seasonal illness. Be sure to monitor this symptom and report it to your doctor if it persists. Make sure to note the volume of mucus and the color that appears upon waking.
