15. Unable to Follow Directions.
Some individuals experience this throughout life, but having the inability to follow directions can be a burden in many ways. When a loved one or friend all of a sudden struggles to follow simple instructions (like from a recipe or new game) it can be an obvious early sign of dementia. In order to follow along with directions, the mind needs to be able to comprehend steps. In order to follow steps, there needs to be some memory to understand what had just happened. With dementia, the memory and cognition is merely wiped and the individual may struggle with simple tasks such as making cookies.
