Measles cases have reached record levels in the United States. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently stated that measles cases are higher than any other year since 1992. Geographically, New York, Michigan and Washington state have been hardest hit by the virus in 2019.
Health officials had thought that the measles virus was eliminated in the US; however, the recent rise in cases can be attributed to the fact that some people elect to not vaccinate their child. The CDC also highlighted that people traveling abroad may be at risk. The CDC stressed that the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine is the best protection against the virus.
