11 Symptoms of Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an infection that impacts a person’s lungs. The infection can be bacterial, viral or fungal in nature and causes the air sacs in one or both lungs to become inflamed. The condition can range in severity from mild to life threatening and is considered most serious for infants, young children, older adults and those with an impaired immune system.

Mild symptoms of pneumonia often resembles those of the cold or flu but last much longer. Some of these symptoms include the following:

1. Cough

Cough is probably one of the first noticeable symptoms of pneumonia. The condition typically starts with breathing germs into the lungs and individuals suffering from a cold or the flu may be more likely to get the disease.

Since the illness makes it difficult for the lungs to fight the infection, individuals may find themselves coughing more than normal in the initial stages of the disease. Some people may also notice coughing up yellow or green colored mucus.
