13. Calcium Deficiency
Why It Happens: A deficiency of calcium can lead to the blood being unable to clot properly and may be a cause of nosebleeds.
Additional Info: Clotting of the blood is controlled by the levels of calcium, Vitamin K and other factors in the bloodstream. If calcium is deficient, the clotting process takes longer, increasing the time before the blood flow stops and scabs begin to form.
What To Do: Pasteurization has resulted in lowered absorption of calcium from dairy products, traditionally a good source of calcium. Taking a properly chelated calcium supplement can help.
