7. Normal Nerve Functioning
Without normal nerve function we wouldn’t be able to function at all. Vitamin B12 plays a vital role in the maintenance of the myelin sheath, which functions to protect the nerve. This can be compared to the plastic insulation around an electrical wire. The myelin sheath is made up mainly of calcium and B12 is vital for its functioning. Without this layer the nerves cannot transmit impulses, resulting in the incorrect messages being relayed from the brain to the muscles and organs of the body. If the myelin sheath is stripped completely from the nerves they will die.
